New raine and neoraine builds
« on: Dec 23 2009, 08:34 AM »

These are builds from the git sources, they had not changed in 3 months but I never released any binary for that...

The changes include :
for raine: tharrier finally playable
for neoraine : the bg is now always reset to black when reseting
for both : fixes mainly for the debuger, and removal of the sound warnings.
+ small changes that you can find in the git web interface.

So this is just yet another small release for those who don't use git, some kind of a little christmas present.
I'll try to upgrade the debian packages later, they have not been updated since february 2009 !

EDIT 2 : raine and neoraine debian packages finally built and uploaded to sourceforge, it's the 1st time they are upgraded since february so it's probably a good thing !

Hello,

EDIT : well since I removed my linux 32 bit partition I can't build the 32 bit deb file anymore ! If someone is interested by a binary only tar file, post to the forum, otherwise, use the source !

Just a suggestion... I don't know if it's appropriate for debian packaging, but if you have a x64 machine, you can actually build 32bit packages within a chroot, installed with 32bit version of the distrib and the help of "linux32" utility.

Pros: it needs much less space than a dedicated partition.
Cons: it complicates a bit the tests:)

Or simpler solution : I install the debian tools to create the package on my 32 bit laptop ! I'll probably do that, it's just a little complicated with the key signing process, and the super complicated stuff to upload something to sourceforge (I might put the package elsewhere then).

Anyway...

Right, there are plenty of solutions that avoids to power up a second computer, but this way you'll always have latest raine on your laptop;)

Actually to get the latest version I usually compile !
deb packages are only for people who don't compile... but anyway it's finally done and uploaded !

A quick report about neoraine 1.2.8:

- the palette bug has been fixed.

- strangely neoraine is now giving me an uncentered screen in windowed mode and a smaller screen in fullscreen mode, as you can see below:

1.2.7 windowed:_______1.2.8 windowed:

1.2.7 fullscreen:_______1.2.8 fullscreen:

I don't know how exactly I got this uncentered windowed screen in version 1.2.8. It just was like that the first times I ran the emulator (which was some days ago), and I soon noticed it because of being used to the 1.2.7 which didn't have this glitch. But now the screen seems ok in windowed mode in version 1.2.8. So I tried to reproduce it again going to fullscreen and then coming back from it and, voi la, I can get this uncentered screen this way. And it happens in version 1.2.7 too!

The screenshot was taken from version 1.2.8 because it was in this version that I first noticed the glitch.

I haven't been able to reproduce the "smaller-screen-in fullscreen-mode" glitch in version 1.2.7 so far. So maybe it was something you did that woke up this bug now, no?

Well, when you have time, please, try to reproduce it like above. I always use normal blits and hq2x/3x filter to play.

By the way, have you worked in any of the issues/suggestions I reported in this post?

I kindly ask you to add one more to that list:

- pressing "Alt + Enter" to go to and come from fullscreen mode.

It's a much more friendly way to do that, but it seems not to be working in latest neoraine versions (don't know about the earlier ones).

Thank you in advance for your comments, and thank you again for this new release!

Well your 2 pictures are not of the same resolution :
neoraine1.2.7-fullscreen.jpg JPEG 1440x900 1440x900+0+0 DirectClass 8-bit 164.223kb
neoraine1.2.8-fullscreen.jpg[1] JPEG 1600x1024 1600x1024+0+0 DirectClass 8-bit 1

Since you are using hq3x the picture looks smaller on a bigger screen since it's scaled 3x.
I have got used to the small bluriness of yuv overlays a long time ago, the advantage is too great, games fullscreen in all the resolutions, ok yours is sharper, but much smaller too !

Probably something which has always been here but that you didn't notice before. And me neither since I never use hq2x/3x and even less in a windowed mode...

Ok, I'll make a few tests later.

Maybe it's just because you switched to fullscreen from a bigger window, so it chose a bigger resolution !

Err no sorry, no motivation for these, and I have been busy with zfs-fuse lately. But this story about translated stuff which is never released is much more interesting ! ;-)

Go to inputs / Raine controls, click on "Fullscreen" and type the combination you want. I chose Ctrl-Enter by default because Alt-Enter is intercepted by the window manager in linux and raine never sees it !

This was a very fast one, not a single line to code ! ;-)

That's strange. All that I did on both neoraine versions was exactly the same. I opened the emulator, maximized the window, loaded the game and then switched to fullscreen mode from the video options.

By the way, I reduced the screenshots quality to 85% so that the size (in KB) could be a little smaller. So the graphic's quality you see in the pictures is not the one seen on the real emulation.

I always use the same resolution on my desktop (1440x900). And video options on both versions have the exactly same setups.

So it's really a bug here that has just waken up.

Sorry about that. I had just forgotten that neoraine uses Ctrl key instead of Alt to go to and come from fullscreen mode. There's no need to change this setting for now.

Thank you, anyway.

And thanks again for checking this out.

See you on 2010!

You are still an impressive bug finder even if it was probably luck this time since it was just the setup you used.

Anyway the difference comes from a line I had added for testing and which was reducing the resolution if the height was not dividable by 32. It was just a test, it was never commited to git, but I happened to use this source to compile the release, and it accidentally finished in the official release, + some debuging code in raine too which had nothing to do there.

It's already gone from the current code, so you'll be back to the previous behaviour in next release...

Will this fix also correct the bug of the uncentered screen?
Were you able to reproduce this one too?

I actually don't know if these bugs have something to do with the hq2x/3x filter. But it's my prefered filter available in neoraine, so I need the emulator to work properly when it's turned on.

Thanks a lot for checking and fixing these issues.

Answering to my own question, no. I've just tested version 1.2.9 and this bug persists.

But the one that would create a smaller screen in fullscreen mode has been fixed.

I wish you can fix the other one when you have time.

Thanks,

As I said, the other one has always been here (or at least for a very long time).
So it can probably wait a little more, it wasn't the priority this time...
